My Bachelorette Party!

I haven't posted yet about one of the funnest events in recent memory. Over one weekend in August, I was lucky enough to have all of my favorite girls come out to visit NYC! They came out for my bachelorette party. On Friday night, Victoria, Lea, and Leah arrived.

Lucky for me, the girls brought their cameras too, so we have lots of pics. I will include some of theirs!

We cruised in a cab down to Rare, a delicious burger restaurant.

Then we headed for bed! After a long day of travel and delays, Lea and Leah were understandably exhausted.

The next morning, we headed out to walk the streets of NYC.

For Summer Streets! One of my favorite events, and the girls were there to celebrate with me! :) We started walking from the hotel we were all staying at, down to my apartment. Right down the middle of the street! I love it!

They were giving away free bike helmets, so we all got on the line to get one!

Chris came to meet us, and he got one too.

After picking up our helmets, we stopped at Pete's Tavern (they claim to be the oldest bar in Manhattan, but there is some dispute about that!) for brunch.

After showing the girls my apartment and introducing them to Lilly,

we headed down the street to the place I go for pedicures, and papmered ourselves a bit. (The order of events is important - meeting Lilly after the pedicures would be disaster for freshly painted toenails.)

Later that afternoon, Mindy and Jasmine joined us. First things first - lunch! We headed to a Korean fried chicken restaurant that I love. It was delicious!

I think I should save the rest for another post... Sorry to leave you in suspense!!

Rhode Island Trip

I can't believe it has been over a month since this trip we took! But I guess I never did post about it. Neither of us had ever been to Providence, so we took a little overnight road trip up there a few weeks ago.

The traffic was, unfortunately, one of the most memorable parts of the trip. It reminded us that when we try to get out of the city, we have to get an EARLY start.

Our first stop in Providence was (big surprise) a dog park! Lilly had a good time meeting some fellow New England dogs.

After checking into our hotel and getting Lilly settled, we headed over to - another big surprise - a brewpub!

Union Station Brewery had pretty decent beers and pretty decent food. As often happens, we bypassed the wait for a table and grabbed seats at the bar. We usually prefer to eat at the bar anyway so it makes it easy for us to sit down quickly!

The most memorable part about this place was their pizza. They make the crust with spent grains from the brewing process! Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the pizza. But the wings were good too. :)

Our next stop was Trinity Brewing Company.

They had good beers, and a more relaxed atmosphere. We sat in the lower level and it was almost empty, which was nice.

While we were sitting there, a song came on in the bar, and I knew instantly where I had heard it before. It took a little prodding but Chris also remembered this scene...

Click on me please!

I could not embed this video! Boo. Anyway I walked around singing "BAAABYYY!" for the rest of the evening.

Next, we headed to Providence's Riverwalk festival. They set a bunch of fires on the river, (sounds like a strange thing to have a festival about, but very cool in person)

and also have outdoor events like performers

and a jazz concert.

I didn't get any photos the next day, but it was fairly uneventful. The most unfortunate part was hunting down a "brewpub" which had great reviews for its pizza, only to find out it was just a local pizza joint and served a couple of commercial brews on tap. Darn! We didn't eat because we weren't all that hungry anyway. It did, however, free up some time for us to stop in Bru Haus in New Haven, which was great! We will be stopping there on all of our future trips up 95! So, despite the traffic and a couple of missed turns here and there, we had an awesome weekend.

Summer Streets

A couple of weeks ago, we got to do one of our favorite activities - Summer Streets!

They close Park Avenue to traffic for almost 7 miles, and allow bicycles, pedestrians, and other forms of non-motorized transportation.

It is so much fun.

There is something really exciting, for some reason, about being out on the streets of NYC without any traffic in your way.

There was a coffee station that served free coffee.

It helped keep us going - we didn't do the whole route but we were out for about an hour and a half.

I tried to get some motion shots of Chris, but it was tricky while on my own bike and trying to watch where I was going!

Can't wait till Summer Street '10!
